Yusuf Gagdi, a former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, has declared his intention to contest for the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the announcement was made at the unveiling of his manifesto and a compendium of his achievements in the 9th National Assembly in Abuja.
Gagdi pledged to lead a transparent House of Representatives and is actively seeking the support of elected lawmakers from other parts of the country, including other political parties.
The 42-year-old lawmaker, who represents Panskhin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency of Plateau State, believes he has what it takes to lead the 10th House of Representatives.
The declaration comes ahead of the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly in June, and several elected federal lawmakers, alongside friends and relatives of Gagdi, were present to support his ambition. In the 9th National Assembly, Gagdi sponsored six private member bills that were signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Gagdi has appealed to the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to allow the lawmakers to determine their leaders. He is determined to achieve his ambition and is actively courting elected lawmakers from other political parties.
The lawmaker was elected into the Plateau State House of Assembly in 2015, where he served as the Deputy Speaker, and in 2019, he won the election to the House of Representatives.
