BRT bus, heavy duty truck collide as Lagos road accident leaves 15 injured

Fifteen people sustained injuries in a road accident involving three vehicles, including a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus, at the Ojota Bridge in Lagos.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, detailed in a statement that the accident involved a BRT bus, an articulated truck carrying a 40-foot container, and an 18-seater commercial bus.

“The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, today received distress calls via the state’s toll-free emergency numbers 767/112 regarding a multiple road traffic accident at the abovementioned address,” the statement reads.

He said, upon arrival, LASEMA responders discovered that the articulated truck while travelling inward Ketu, lost control, skidded off its lane, and collided with a BRT bus heading inward Ojota from the opposite direction.

According to the statement, the impact caused the BRT bus to veer into the service lane and crash into the 18-seater commercial bus.

The statement added that the BRT bus, with registration number EXY-167XY, suffered significant damage to both its front and rear ends. The tractor head of the truck was also damaged, while the commercial bus bore registration number JJJ-439YG.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted that while no critical injuries were reported, the victims were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

He said four of the injured received immediate care from LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Team and LASAMBUS at the scene.

“The road has been cleared and is now open for vehicular activities,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
