Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has shared a moment from his time in the presidency, narrating how President Buhari reacted when Vice President Yemi Osinbajo survived a helicopter crash in February 2019.
Adesina, in his book titled ‘Working with Buhari: Reflections of A Special Adviser, Media, and Publicity (2015-2023),’ recounted that Buhari, often perceived as a bigot by some, exhibited a different side during the incident.
According to Adesina, Buhari, far from being a bigot, displayed a light-hearted and humorous response when discussing the helicopter crash with Osinbajo.
The former presidential spokesperson wrote that when congratulating Osinbajo on surviving the crash, Buhari jocularly said, “I can imagine that when the chopper crashed with a bang, VP as a pastor must have shouted, Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! And fortunately, Jesus was not far away, so He saved him.”
Adesina also highlighted instances where Buhari allowed Christians in the government to take time off during Easter and Christmas.
