Nigeria’s former president Muhammadu Buhari has dismissed report that his property in Abuja has been revocked by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Garba Shehu, the former president’s spokesperson in a statement said the property in question was allocated to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation.
According to Shehu, the foundation, a non-profit organization was established by individuals close to the former president.
Shehu said Buhari has no personal property or land seized in Abuja to his name.
He added that the land was lawfully acquired with support from well-meaning Nigerians and associates of the former president.
He, however, noted that the acquisition of the property encountered bureaucratic hurdles when the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
He said the FCDA presented an unusually high bill for the issuance of the certificate of occupancy charged on similar organisations.
He further noted that the revocation of the property by the present minister did not come to the former President as a surprise.
She also noted that Buhari even during his tenure had stated that he was not interested in acquiring additional property in Abuja.
“Let those jumping up and down in the digital space get their facts right and stop dragging the name of the former president into baseless controversies,” Shehu stated.
