Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations has eulogised the late former president Muhammadu Buhari.
Mohammed who served as the Minister of Environment during the administration of the late former president (November 2015 to December 2016) said her ex-boss was never comfortable with the intricacies of politics.
She, however, noted that Buhari throughout his administration as the civilian president of Nigeria gave his all to delivering on his responsibility as the nation’s number one man and serving Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday, July 15, Mohammed said the late former president made her accept her recent job at the UN where she also chairs the UN Sustainable Development Group.
“I was sitting in a meeting in Marrakech (Morocco), and Ban Ki-moon said we think the new Secretary-General will ask you to come and work with him. I told PMB he shouldn’t say yes if they come to ask him, and I felt very confident he wouldn’t say yes.
“Then I went on to India, and I got a call from the UNSG asking me to be his DSG. I said with a lot of confidence, I can’t leave, I’m committed to PMB. I was very confident that PMB would also say no.
“Then they told me PMB was looking for me, and I went to see him. He talked to me for a long time about service, and then I realised where he was going. He said, but of course the decision is yours, but I knew the only thing I could say was, Yes Sir, I will do it…” Mohammed said.
