A 39-year-old businessman from Kano State, Yahaya Hassan Musa, has been killed following his abduction last week.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that Musa’s body was found in a forest hours after his abductors received a N6m ransom.
He had been kidnapped last Thursday around Mopa area of Kogi State while returning from Cotonou, Benin Republic.
The kidnappers reportedly demanded a ransom of N10 million, but later reduced it to N6 million, which Musa’s family paid.
His decomposing corpse has been found in the bush and buried there.
Nigeria’s booming kidnap-for-ransom enterprise threatens the country’s security, citizens say.
At least $18.34m was paid to kidnappers as ransom – mostly by families and the government – between June 2011 and March 2020, according to a report by SB Morgen (SBM) Intelligence, a Lagos-based political risk analysis firm.
