Chairman of Sokoto committee to tackle bandits resigns hours after inauguration

Col. Garba Moyi Isa (rtd), recently inaugurated as the chairman of a 25-member committee tasked with establishing the Sokoto State Community Guards, has resigned from his position.

The abrupt resignation came just hours after his inauguration and has sparked significant speculation.

It is reported that Col. Moyi’s decision to step down is linked to circulating video footage implicating him in knowing banditry activities occurring in the eastern part of the state.

In his resignation statement, Moyi, a former three-term commissioner in Sokoto state, expressed his commitment to safeguarding his hard-earned integrity.

He emphasized that he had served his country as a Colonel and entered politics, holding positions such as the chairman of his local government and the state commissioner for security on three different occasions, all without any blemish on his record.

He stated, “I will never trade my integrity with anything. No appointment is worth my integrity, and so far, I have relinquished my appointment as the Community Guards’ chairman.”

Moyi also thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for considering him worthy of the appointment and assured the government and people of Sokoto of his continued dedication to the state’s progress and development.
