Children injured as traditional worshippers, Muslims engage in gun battle in Osun [PHOTOS]

There was pandemonium in Osogbo, capital of Osun State on Sunday as traditional worshippers and Islamic worshippers clashed.

This newspaper gathered that traditional worshippers stormed a Muslim worship centre, Kamorudeen Central Mosque, around 2:30 p.m. at Oluode Aranyin while a special prayer for Nigeria was ongoing.

At least 13 people were brutally injured in the attack. Many of the victims shot are under 17 years and are undergoing treatment at different hospitals.

A 12-year-old boy, Abduljeleel Ali sustained gunshot injuries on the chest and leg; Adebayo Awolesin, 15,  was shot in the arm; Taofeeq Fatai, 17 and Maliq Abdukabir, 17 are all undergoing treatment in Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

It was learned that the Kamorudeen Islamic Society of Nigeria organised a special prayer for the Nation which was attended by members of the organisation across the state.  A victim alleged that the traditional worshippers under the protection of the police carried out the dastard attack adding that they were led by one Kayode Esuleke.

The Imam of the mosque, Kazeem Yunus confirmed that the leader of the organisation in Iwo, Osun State, Moshood Salawudeen was shot in the head and gave up the ghost before getting to the hospital.

The police spokesperson in the state, Yemisi Opalola is yet to respond to POLITICS NIGERIA enquiries as of the time filing this report.
