China, Africa set up media collaboration platform

A new collaboration platform has been set up by China Media Group (CMG) to improve collaboration with African media partners. The platform was announced during the “Our African Partners: CMG Media Cooperation Forum 2021” during the weekend.

The event culminated into a declaration signed by 36 media partners involving responsible public information disseminators, strengthening and deepening cooperation, and amplifying Chinese and African voices around the globe.

The Publicity Department chief of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, Huang Kunming, urged African and Chinese media to be objective, impartial, and stand for justice.

He assured that both sides will treat each other with high regard and the partnership will improve people-to-people connection. Mr Huang insisted that Chinese and African media should use their partnership to expand digital benefits.

African Union of Broadcasting CEO Gregoire Ndjaka said the partnership “testifies the common desire to appreciate the efforts made in this vast project” and provided opportunities to start over amid unprecedented changes in the world.

South Africa’s Independent Media chairman Iqbal Survé said that China’s experience in digital media could help African media to provide news with better flows which will benefit the people of Africa.

Mallam Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, the director-general of the Nigerian Television Authority, proposed to set up a central video server for better information and content sharing between both parties.

The event, held both online and offline in Nairobi, Kenya, was attended by media representatives, policymakers, and media and communication scholars from China and over 40 African countries.
