Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has disclosed that over 50,000 Nigerian soldiers are poised to miss out on the Christmas festivities as their duty mandates their presence in challenging and remote regions nationwide and beyond.
Commending the soldiers’ unparalleled dedication and commitment, Lagbaja acknowledged their pivotal role in securing the country, underscoring their sacrifice during this celebratory season.
He said despite their yearning to be with their families, the soldiers will remain steadfastly stationed in areas difficult to access, ensuring the safety and stability of communities.
Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, relayed the COAS’s message in a statement, emphasizing the soldiers’ unwavering resolve and selfless service, acknowledging their resilience in safeguarding regions within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Lagbaja expressed profound gratitude for the soldiers’ sacrifices, recognizing their enduring efforts and unwavering commitment to national security.
‘Gen Lagbaja noted further that judging by the policies and unfolding programmes of the Federal Government, the year ahead holds good prospects for Nigeria and the Army.
He revealed that in the coming year, the Nigerian Army expects to take delivery of its helicopters and other combat enablers that would enhance a better security environment across the country.
He revealed that the Army Headquarters had initiated several welfare projects that would directly impact the lives of soldiers and their families.
He reiterated that the troops’ well-being is of utmost importance and assured them that he would continue to work tirelessly to provide them with the requisite resources to carry out their duties effectively.
He reassured Nigerians that the Nigerian Army would continue to work with Sister Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security and response agencies to create and maintain a peaceful, safe, and secure environment for the country’s socio-economic development.
