The Disciples of Jagaban (DOJ), a support group for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has criticized the emerging opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections, accusing its leaders of being responsible for Nigeria’s past woes.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, national coordinator of the group, said Nigerians must not be deceived by what he described as the “repackaging” of failed politicians seeking a return to power.
Alawuje said: “Those parading themselves today as an alternative coalition are the same individuals who mortgaged the future of this country in the past.
“Former vice presidents, ex-governors, and ministers — their records are public. Titles don’t equal integrity.”
He said the DOJ’s support for Tinubu dates back to when he was only nursing his presidential ambition, insisting the group’s loyalty is grounded in national interest and belief in the president’s leadership, not blind allegiance.
“We supported President Tinubu long before he declared to run in 2023. We remain firmly committed to his Renewed Hope agenda and will continue to defend the reforms necessary to rebuild Nigeria,” Alawuje stated.
The group backed the removal of fuel subsidies, describing it as a tough but essential decision.
“The foundation of our economy was rotten. President Tinubu is not perfect, but he is making visible efforts to restructure a broken system. The temporary pain is the price of long-term stability,” the statement further read.
Alawuje warned against allowing “recycled politicians” to hijack public sentiment ahead of 2027.
“Let’s be clear — we remember their failures. Nigerians must not allow opportunists to return to power under a new name. This is a call to action for all patriotic citizens,” he said.
