The Nigerian Air Force has thrown its gates open to Nigerians to witness some of its activities outlined for the celebration of the institution’s 61st anniversary.
Announcing an Open Day Event, NAF said members of the public are encouraged to visit its bases across the country between May 1 an d 15, 2025, to witness the inner workings of the Force.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said this year’s celebration with the initiative themed “Come See Your Air Force,” is aimed at building strong civil-military relations between NAF and citizens of the country.
According to Ejodame, the NAF units participating in the initiative include those in Enugu, the Federal Capital Territory, Victoria Island, Ikeja, Katsina, Maiduguri, Port Harcourt, Oshogbo, Minna, Makurdi, Bauchi, Yenagoa, Kano, Jos, Kaduna, Yola, Benin and Kainji.
The NAF spokesperson said these units would have their gates open to welcome Nigerians on specific days which would be announced by the different bases.
Activities the citizens can look forward to include guided tours of facilities, close-up inspections of aircraft and platforms, historical exhibitions including photo galleries and mini-museums and interactive sessions with NAF personnel.
Others are documentary screenings and engaging video displays, souvenir distribution to commemorate the experience and outreach programmes in schools, including career talks to inspire young Nigerians
“These Open Day events serve as a key component of the broader anniversary celebrations set to hold officially from 13 to 20 May 2025,” Ejodame said.
Also quoting the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, the NAF spokesperson said this initiative will highlight the importance of public trust and engagement between citizens and NAF.
“This Open Day is a reflection of our commitment to transparency, national unity, and pride in service. We invite all Nigerians to come, see, and connect with their Air Force,” Abubakar said.
