Confusion reigns as three candidates emerge as APC gubernatorial candidates in Edo state

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Edo State has plunged into chaos as three candidates emerge as contenders for the party’s gubernatorial ticket.

The conflicting declarations have created an atmosphere of confusion and uncertainty, raising questions about the integrity of the primary process.

The confusion began with the Governor Hope Uzodimma governorship primary committee initially announcing Dennis Idahosa as the winner.

However, the tumult deepened when the Returning Officer for the primary, Stanley Ugboaje, declared Monday Okpebholo the winner of the same election.

Local government returning officers have added to the disarray by announcing Anamero Dekeri as the winner late Saturday night.

Anamero Dekeri, currently representing Etsako federal constituency in the House of Representatives, secured 25,384 votes, surpassing Dennis Idahosa, who scored 14,127 votes, according to the local government returning officers.

This turn of events leaves the APC with three candidates vying for the gubernatorial position in Edo State, casting doubt on the credibility of the primary process and highlighting internal divisions within the party.

The conflicting declarations raise concerns about the party’s ability to present a united front for the upcoming governorship election on September 21.

The party’s national secretariat has yet to issue an official statement on the crisis.
