‘Continue to pummel bandits, insurgents’, Buhari to service chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday gave Nigeria’s security chiefs orders to move on and neutralise bandits and other terrorists.

Buhari asked them “not rest until all Nigerians are at rest”.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, stated this while briefing journalists at the end of the National Security Council (NSC) meeting presided over by President Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to Aregbesola: “He (Buhari) is of the belief that more must and should still be done. But he commended all of them for the progress we are recording on all fronts.”

Furthermore, the minister stated that the President ordered the armed forces and other security agencies not to rest on their oars, regardless of the progress and efforts being made to eliminate criminalities.

He said: “The President said that we are not yet where we should be. That Nigerians deserve to live in peace. And that until we achieved that we will not rest.”

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that violent attacks by assailants known locally as bandits are common across the northwest and central parts of Nigeria, especially in remote communities where there is no adequate security presence.

The gangs have increased their criminal acts this year, prompting concern from citizens.
