President Muhammadu Buhari and his vice, Yemi Osinbajo, have both sacrifice half of their salaries to fight Coronavirus in the country, Politics Nigeria reports.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to Mr Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday.
Mr Adesina, who spoke on Channels Television Politics Today programme, claimed the duo have been receiving half of their salaries even before the outbreak of coronavirus.
He noted that this has been the routine since they came into power in 2015.
“Already, the President and the Vice President are earning 50 percent of their salaries, they are not earning 100 percent,” he stated.
When asked if both will be donating their salaries just like the members of the Senate and House of Representatives chambers of the National Assembly, Adesina said: “I can’t say for sure; the members of the federal cabinet are donating 50 percent of their March salaries.
“Already, the Vice President and the President are earning 50 percent. Right from the beginning of the administration (the first term), they had elected to earn half of the salaries they should earn … to ask them to do more will be a voluntary thing,” the presidential aide added.
Nigeria, amongst other countries around the globe, is battling with Coronavirus pandemic.
Many billionaires in the countries and political office holders are taking responsibility to get relief materials for the indigent.
