Staff and guests at Fancy hotel in Umuguma, Owerri, Imo state have been released by the state government after being quarantined for 2 weeks following concerns of exposure to the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
The release was facilitated after none of them tested positive to the virus.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the state government sealed the hotel two weeks ago and barred staff and guests from leaving the premises based on information that the owner of the hotel, Aguwa Osuagwu, visited there upon his return from a trip to South Africa recently.
A statement on Saturday by the state commissioner for information and strategy, Declan Emelumba, revealed that Osuagwu had a complex heart condition and lung failure after he was shot in the chest sometime around 2012.
It added that by the time he visited Owerri he did not have Coronavirus and that two relatives in his village whom he stayed with during his visit have all tested negative to the virus. Also his wife and children who were with him and the driver who drove him around have all tested negative to the virus.
The information commissioner advised people of the state to avoid misinformation by detractors and remain rest assured that the virus was not in the state.
