Organized Labour to Meet Federal Government on Monday Over Fuel Subsidy

The organised labour is scheduled to meet with representatives of the Federal Government at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, June 26.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the agenda of the meeting will be to discuss measures aimed at mitigating the impact of the subsidy removal on the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

This forthcoming meeting serves as a follow-up to the discussions held on Monday, June 19, marking the fourth round of negotiations between the government and organised labour since the subsidy removal took effect.

Tommy Etim, Vice-President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), revealed that during the previous meeting, Mrs. Olu Verheijen, the Special Adviser to the President on Energy, presented a roadmap. However, the terms of reference were not disclosed.

Etim further explained that the labour union would submit a list of its members who will participate in the subcommittees of the main steering committee.

“We have another meeting on Monday, which continues from the previous one. In our last meeting, the special adviser to the president on energy presented a roadmap, but the terms of reference were not shared. Therefore, labour requested that these be disclosed so that we can contribute our input. We will also provide a list of our members who will join the subcommittees of the main steering committee,” said Etim.
