Coronavirus: PDP postpones declaration rally for new decampees

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state has postponed the declaration rally for politicians who recently joined the party.

The rally scheduled for March 25 has been postponed indefinitely over the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

It should be noted that as of Friday, Nigeria has recorded 12 cases of the outbreak, which originated from China.

The decision of the party was contained in a statement signed by its state chairman, Soji Adagunodo.

It was sent to POLITICS NIGERIA on Friday.

“The Peoples Democratic Party, Osun State Chapter hereby announce the indefinite POSTPONEMENT, the declarations of former members of ADC, ADP, SDP, PDM and other political parties to our great Party PDP earlier scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 25th March 2020 due to circumstances beyond our control, especially on the danger being posed by the ravaging CORONAVIRUS pandemic, otherwise known as COVID-19 that is sweeping across the globe.

” We must also note that the speed at which the pandemic has been spreading, especially through gatherings of crowds of people and the attendant panic that has been created along with, it has required that wisdom must be applied to avoid putting our peoples’ health at risk.”

“We, therefore, implore our people to take cognisance of the need to truly take care of their health, avoid too many associations with people at this time since the spread of the pandemic has been linked to such habits. Let’s take care of our hygiene, avoid hugging, clubbing, visits to public places and worship places where people whose trips outside the shores of Nigeria may jeopardize our health,” the statement partly read.

This paper reported how the party and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, apologised for holding a mega rally in Oyo State on Wednesday.

The PDP rally caused a stir among Nigerians on social media.
