Corruption: Group asks EFCC, ICPC to probe Akpabio’s tenure as governor

A message has been sent to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) over Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The message was sent by a civil society organisation: Network Against Corruption and Human Trafficking.

Specifically, the group asked the anti-corruption agencies to probe the administration of Akpabio for alleged corruption while he was governor of Akwa Ibom state.

According to the group, Akpabio, who is the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) favoured candidate for the position of Senate president, mortgaged the fortune of Akwa Ibom for personal aggrandisement.

The allegation is coming a few days before the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly with the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs as one of the front runners for the Senate Presidency.

Politics Nigeria reports that this allegations were raised by the Executive Director of Investigation in the organisation, Samson Tega, and Operational Manager, Stanley Ugabe in Abuja.

According to them, Akpabio is not fit to be Senate president.

But when contacted, Akpabio’s Chief Press Secretary, Jackson Udom, described the allegation as a witch-hunt meant to scuttle the Senate Presidency ambition of the former governor.
