The Court of Appeal in Abuja will deliver its verdict today at noon in the Adamawa State governorship legal battle, a case that has built political tensions since the March 18 election.
At stake is the governorship of Adamawa, currently held by incumbent Umaru Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose victory is being contested by Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Court of Appeal reserved its judgment on December 5 after hearing arguments from both sides. Binani, represented by former Attorney General Akin Olujimi, SAN, challenged the Adamawa State Governorship Electoral Petitions Tribunal’s decision to uphold Fintiri’s election. She alleged non-compliance with the electoral act and sought the nullification of the poll.
Fintiri’s legal team, along with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the PDP, countered her arguments, urging the court to dismiss the appeal for lack of merit.
