Court Sets Date to Rule on Binance Tax Evasion Case

A High Court in Abuja has scheduled October 11, 2024, to deliver its verdict in the tax evasion trial against popular cryptocurrency platform Binance.

The company faces four counts of tax evasion, including failing to register with Nigeria’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for tax purposes.

On Friday, Binance’s lawyer, Ayodele Omotilewa, appeared in court, pleading not guilty to the four charges before Judge Emeka Nwite. He argued that the case lacks substance and urged the judge to dismiss the charges, citing the previous dismissal of charges against the executives.

Judge Nwite adjourned the case until October, allowing both the defense and prosecution more time to prepare their cases and review the evidence presented.

Recall that in June, a Federal High Court in Abuja cleared two Binance Executives Tigran Gambaryan, a 39-year-old American, and Nadeem Anjarwalla, who is currently at large, of tax evasion charges filed by the FIRS.

However, they still face separate money laundering charges.
