A senator representing Osun Central District at the National Assembly, Ajibola Bashir, has said he is currently in self-isolation since his return from the United Kingdom.
Mr Bashir made this known in a tweet while reacting to a letter written by Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to the President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Kyari alleged that lawmakers who embarked on a trip to the UK refused to take coronavirus precautionary steps.
His letter was dated March 21.
While no lawmaker has been confirmed positive, Mr Kyari himself has been tested positive for COVID-19. The Federal Government did not confirm nor deny the report confirming Mr Kyari’s case.
However, Mr Bashiru, a former Attorney General of Osun State and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora, Non-Governmental Organisations and Civil Society Organisations, noted that he had not attended any public event.
“Contrary to the reports that all the Senators that travelled to the United Kingdom for the Petroleum Oil and Gas seminar have not complied with the protocol on precautionary steps on COVID-19, I have been in self-isolation since I returned from the UK.”
“So, I have not been to the National Assembly or attended any business or function. Also, the National Center for Disease Control contacted my next of kin earlier today to know how I am faring. I am in good health and enjoying enough rest at home”, his tweet read.
POLITICS NIGERIA understands that there are 42 confirmed cases already in Nigeria as at the time of filing this report.
