COVID-19: Keyamo speaks on fresh lockdown in Lagos, others

Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has opposed fresh nationwide lockdown despite the spike in the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had in a nationwide broadcast eased the lockdown imposed in Abuja, Lagos, and Ogun states to curb the spread of the virus.

However, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Saturday threatened to lockdown the state over the non-compliance of residents to government guidelines.

Reacting to the development on his Twitter page on Sunday, Keyamo said another total lockdown would be counter-productive.

According to him, Nigerians must practice the safety skills to defeat COVID-19, adding that another lockdown is not the right way to defeat the virus.

He tweeted: “My personal view is that another total lockdown would be counter-productive.

“Before defeating the virus, we must learn to live with it all around us and practice the skills of avoiding it like a landmine.

“Practice makes perfect. We cannot perfect those skills by locking ourselves up.”
