The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has denied approving the use of any drug or vaccine as a treatment for Coronavirus in the country.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State had on Wednesday directed health workers in the state to use chloroquine and Zithromax to treat COVID-19 patients in the state.
However, in a statement on Friday, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the agency had not approved any drug or vaccine for use as treatment or cure against COVID-19.
She, however, noted that research was ongoing to find a cure for COVID-19 in the country.
She said, “The agency is concerned about reports on social and other media of drugs or vaccines to cure COVID 19. The agency has not granted any approval to any products for use as a cure or vaccine against COVID 19.
“The public is advised to comply with measures issued by the NCDC to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“These include the use of face coverings/masks in addition to social distancing, washing of hands and use of alcohol-based sanitisers.”
