The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, has opposed comments from the DG, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Chikwe Ihekweazu and the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, that 90% of coronavirus patients will fully recover without treatment.
POLITICS NIGERIA reported how Ihekweazu, director-general of NCDC, said 90 per cent of COVID-19 patients recover without any intervention. This he disclosed in one of the media briefings of the presidential task force on COVID-19. He was responding to a question on how Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, recovered in less than one week.
Also, the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, had stated that 90 per cent of people who contract the coronavirus (COVID-19)infection will recover fully.
Mr Ehanire while responding to questions at the daily Presidential TaskForce (PTF) briefing said people are afraid due to the high number of confirmed cases “that they forget about those recovering.”
Meanwhile, during an interview on Arise TV recently, Mr Oshiomhole described such statements as dangerous.
“I heard someone saying that someone without any care that naturally it will go away. That’s a dangerous statement to make.” Although he did not mention names, he stated that the claims from the two medical doctors are not supported by evidence.
“About 60,000 persons have died in America and their system did not just kill. How come we have such kind of death in Spain and in Italy with all the advancement in tech and the health care infrastructure,” He queried.
He then advised that public officers should manage their language very well.
“The evidence that we see from the numbers generated every day suggests that the curve is going up,” He restated.
According to Mr Oshiomhole, in countries where they have started relaxing restrictions, they are relaxing because the curve has been flattened or its flattening.
“That is not what we are seeing and it appears that because we have limited capacity for testing, until you test, you can’t confirm.”
He further stated that the accurate figures can not be available until Nigeria improves its testing capacity.
“You cannot know more people who are affected more than the number you are able to test. We have not tested three per cent of Nigerians,” Oshiomhole explained.
Nigerian health systems next to nothing . So the covid 19 pandemic has exposed very poor health system in the country . The good news though there was no where the so call elite who stole billions money can run to now as international airport had closed Every watchdog in the country must investigate every penny contributed the covid 19 because some corrupt health officials will likely colludes with the CBN to truncate the funds contributed by private and government to fight the pandemic . Oshiomhole should have been ashamed of APC led govt.for inadequate medical facilities (testing centers) rather than been so much concern over the Health Minister’s comments. I a corona-virus patients recovers without a treatment how should that bothers Oshiomhole. I suppose your much concern should have be how your APC led FG should build more hospitals with medical equipments as well as Testing Centers so that everyone will get tested for the virus.
