Abubakar Malami, former attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, has refuted claims that the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.
Malami, who spoke through his media aide Muhammed Bello Doka, said the CPC bloc — the political platform of former President Muhammadu Buhari — has not taken a position on defection or endorsement, contrary to a recent declaration by a group led by Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
He said: “When you say CPC bloc, one needs to know who they are referring to.
“Is it the likes of Al-Makura, Adamu Adamu, Masari, and Faruku Adamu Aliyu — individuals who only recently threw Buhari under the bus in desperate attempts to stay relevant in the APC?”
Malami dismissed their position as a “personal” move, adding that it does not reflect the stance of the broader CPC structure.
He accused Al-Makura’s camp of attempting to curry favour with the Tinubu administration for “personal benefits,” insisting that only the authentic CPC bloc, with strong ties to Buhari’s political ideology, can determine its direction.
Al-Makura’s group had earlier claimed that the CPC faction of the APC had ruled out defection and pledged loyalty to Tinubu ahead of 2027.
