“Criticism won’t stop me; I’m proud of Nigeria” – President Tinubu declares in Enugu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria despite facing criticism and opposition to his administration’s policies, including from some state governors.

During a one-day official visit to Enugu State on Saturday, Tinubu vowed to press ahead with the necessary reforms to address the country’s challenges.

Acknowledging dissent from certain quarters, the President said he remains undeterred, likening the situation to a Yoruba saying:

“The pig will get to the slaughter, but there will be a lot of noise. I’ll live with the noise,” Tinubu quipped.

Tinubu emphasized the importance of tackling inherited economic issues, such as removing the fuel subsidy, which he described as a painful but essential decision for securing the future of unborn generations.

“You cannot spend the future of our generations in advance. Don’t bankrupt the nation before they are born,” he said.

Despite negative commentary about his administration, Tinubu declared his pride in Nigeria and urged citizens to adopt a similar outlook.

“This house, Nigeria, we must build it—not just for our immediate needs, but for tomorrow. People may grumble, abuse me, but I asked for this job because I believe in myself. I gathered a very good team to build the nation,” he stated.

Tinubu also urged Nigerians to work hard to make the country one they can proudly call their own.

“I won’t entertain negative comments about Nigeria. I’m proud of this country, and you should be too,” he added.
