Customs to implement food import duty waiver soon – CG Adeniyi

The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, on Tuesday, August 6, said the service will commence the implementation of duty waiver on imported food items in a week.

Speaking at a combined news conference organised by the head of security agencies and service chiefs at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, Adeniyi said the NCS would commence implementation as soon as the guidelines are ready.

According to the Adeniyi, the guidelines for the implementation of the food import waiver are still being worked out by the Ministry of Finance.

Also appealing to Nigerians to exercise patience, Adeniyi said efforts were ongoing to address the demands of the #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protests, especially concerning food inflation and the high cost of living.

His words, “I like to let Nigerians know that there has been a lot that is going on to address these issues that are related to ameliorating this situation.

“This is through a mixture of fiscal policies of the government and several strategic interventions from the government.

“The Federal Government’s effort as part of the intervention is the distribution of strategic food items which was released from the national grain reserves about a month ago.
