Police bans use of tinted glasses, spy number plates

The Borno Police Command has announced a ban on the use of tinted vehicle glasses and covered number plates in the state.

The ban was announced in a statement issued by the police spokesman in the state, DSP Sani Kamilu, on Tuesday.

Kamilu said the command has observed that vehicle owners use tinted vehicle glasses, covered number plates and spy number plates indiscriminately.

He said the police also noticed that sirens are being blared by unauthorised persons in the state.

The spokesperson warned residents against engaging in such acts, adding that unlawful activities will no longer be tolerated.

“Violators of the law against the use of the items are warned to desist as the police would not allow unpatriotic individuals to violate the law by their acts of lawlessness,” Kamilu said.

“All heads of departments, area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical commanders have been directed to heighten the level of vigilance in their respective areas of responsibility

“They have also been directed to collaborate with other security agencies to share information and intelligence reports and to ensure a coordinated effort in enforcing the ban and addressing any emerging threats.”

Politics Nigeria recalls that in 2021, Usman Baba, former inspector-general of police, directed the suspension of issuance of permits for tinted glasses and spy number plates for vehicles across the country.

Baba later exempted cars with factory-fitted glasses from the ban.
