The death toll after Saturday’s tanker explosion in Suleja has climbed to 98, according to the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
Abdullahi Baba Arah, NSEMA’s Director General, provided an update on the casualties, confirming that 69 people sustained injuries in addition to the fatalities.
The explosion caused extensive damage, razing 20 shops and destroying goods and properties worth millions of naira.
Arah said 10 additional patients succumbed to severe burns, adding that seven of the deaths occurred at the General Hospital in Suleja, while three others were recorded at the General Hospital in Sabon-Wuse.
Abdulberqy Ebbo, Special Adviser to the Niger State Governor on Digital Communications, also stated that: “Out of 43 patients admitted, seven have passed away, three were discharged to recuperate at home, 10 were referred to specialist facilities in Abuja, and 23 are still receiving treatment for various degrees of burns.”
