National Housing Programme’s affordable units only for taxpayers, FG says

Nigerians who do not pay taxes are ineligible to qualify for the 5,000 affordable housing units developed by the Ministry of Works and Housing under the National Housing Programme, according to the Federal Government.

Last week, the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, said Nigerians might apply for the units via an online platform.

According to the Federal Government’s homepage, off-takers must produce a “current tax certificate/pay slip”, and that the paper must be “the most recent copy of your tax clearance/pay slip certificate”.

A digital copy of a valid form of identification, such as a driver’s licence or passport, is also required. Mortgage subscribers will be allowed to get letters of reference from any principal mortgage bank.

“We currently have over 5,000 units at different stages of completion. The houses range from one, two, and three semi-detached bungalows and one to three-bedroom flats.

“The least selling price for each of these houses will be N7.2 million, and the highest will be N16.19 million. The highest is a three-bedroom bungalow; it is not just the house but it also has land along with it. The bungalows are a little more expensive than the blocks of flats which do not have additional land,” the minister said.
