“Defections won’t save Nigeria” – Saraki warns ex-PDP leaders

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has stated that defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) out of anger will not solve Nigeria’s problems.

Saraki made the comment on Tuesday at the PDP Consultative Conference in Abuja.

He urged former PDP leaders who have left the party, including former vice-president Atiku Abubakar, to reconsider their decisions and return to rebuild the party ahead of the 2027 general election.

His words: “The fact that some of us are still here should not be a reason for others to abandon the house we all built.

“I want to appeal to some of our leaders, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and even those who have joined APC or ADC, to let go of personal grievances.”

He said he once left the PDP due to frustration but returned because he realised it was the only platform that could offer Nigerians meaningful leadership.

His words: “I understand the anger and frustration, but we must not allow emotions to destroy what we have built.

“The APC is not the answer. Leaving to form or join other parties will not change Nigeria. Defections won’t save Nigeria.”

Saraki described the PDP as the only party with the structure and legacy to return Nigeria to the path of progress.

He warned that history would judge the party’s founding fathers if they allowed it to disintegrate.
