Deji Adeyanju reacts as Peter Obi threatens legal action over defamation

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has threatened legal action against popular Nigerian human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, over alleged defamatory posts.

Obi’s legal team, through EJESIMEN & CO MADIBA CHAMBERS, SAN, stated that Adeyanju had on multiple occasions made derogatory remarks about the former governor on X and other social media platforms, thereby defaming him.

The legal notice specifically referenced a post from August 21, in which Adeyanju accused Obi of allegedly diverting funds from the Anambra State coffers to invest in his family business. I

n the post, Adeyanju claimed he met with the former Labour Party presidential candidate, who he said “tried to give me money and called it thank you for coming, it’s 100% true.”

Obi’s legal team is demanding a public retraction of the alleged defamatory statements, accompanied by an unreserved apology from Adeyanju.

However, in a post shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday night, Adeyanju said he is ready to face Obi in court.

He wrote, “I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah”.
