An unnamed butcher has reportedly stabbed his wife to death.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the suspect is currently in police custody.
Sources say that the incident occurred on Thursday evening after the suspect returned from the market where he sells meat.
He attempted to take hot water from the stove to bathe, but his wife refused, stating that he does not provide enough money for the household expenses or to refill the gas.
Ignoring her protests, the suspect went ahead and attempted to take the hot water. This led to an argument between the couple, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
During the fight, the wife picked up a knife and attempted to stab her husband. The suspect managed to overpower her, taking the knife and stabbing her multiple times until she fell to the ground.
After the stabbing, the suspect rushed his wife to a private hospital, where he claimed she had been in a terrible accident. The report has it that their daughter became suspicious and reported the incident to the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, has confirmed the incident.
