Details emerge as FAAN takes action over Enugu Air, passenger brawl

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Wednesday announced that it has launched a probe into the brawl between officials of Enugu Air and a passenger.

The action by FAAN follows a viral video which captured a man having an altercation with the staff of the airline on Monday.

It was gathered the passenger had refused to turn off his mobile phone as directed by the aviation authorities ahead of landing or take off.

The altercation later degenerated to aviation security operatives dragging the man out of the aeroplane.

Reacting to the incident, the Cable reports that Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection said the agency has launched an investigation into the matter.

According to Oroh, preliminary findings on their incident revealed that the passenger had refused a warning by the airline officials to comply with aviation safety measures.

“Right now, we are still investigating to get the full information about what happened.

“So far, what we have gathered is that a passenger was meant to switch off his mobile phone but he refused to abide by that instruction and other passengers in the aeroplane also joined in asking him to turn off his mobile phone and when he refused to do that, the security on the ground were alerted.

“Even the passengers were not comfortable with him refusing to switch off his phone and the security had to deplane him,” Oroh said.

Oroh also noted that the passenger became unruly and the pilot was forced to escalate the matter to the controller.

She added that the flight, earlier scheduled to depart Enugu for Lagoa could not make its trip until the passenger was deplaned.
