The Presidency has reacted to reports of moves to draft former President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential contest, saying while he is free to run, Nigerians will remember what it described as his “disastrous record” in office.
Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued the statement on Monday, dismissing recent remarks by Professor Jerry Gana, who suggested Jonathan could return on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform and defeat Tinubu.
Onanuga said: “Jonathan reserves the right to run if he wishes. President Tinubu will wholeheartedly welcome him if he decides to enter the race.
“But Jonathan will have his date in the court of the land on his eligibility and his encounter with the people over his dismal record.”
The statement accused Jonathan of running the economy aground between 2010 and 2015, citing depleted reserves, mismanagement of oil revenues, and diversion of security funds.
By contrast, Onanuga said Tinubu has stabilised the economy, reformed fuel and forex policies, grown GDP by 4.23% in Q2 2025, reduced inflation to 20.12%, and restored investor confidence.
“The nation has turned the corner. The PDP broke the economy; President Tinubu is fixing it,” he said.
The Presidency warned that Nigerians will not “allow those who wrecked the country before to return and run it down again.”

So, some Nigerians are still finding it really comfortable with these hopeless Administration of APC in Nigeria. With all these insecurities, kidnapping, banditry, hunger, corruption, unemployment, high rate of hunger , farmers been prevented from harvesting their produce after much Labour over the years, even Traditional rulers being kidnapped in their houses right in Abuja. How much inflation has this administration tackled, and WHAT was the price of a bag of RICE during Jonathan’s administration, what was the price of fuel at as then and many other things in Nigeria ? Please let me remind you, you are talking like you enjoy seeing Fellow Nigeria suffering while your are enjoying seating in Abuja drinking what falls out on the President’s Table. And remember the story of Lazarus and the rich man in the Bible, YOU will suffer like that rich man who fail to look closely to all that Lazarus suffered while he was eating and leaking all that fell from the table of that RICH man while they were both living on Earth. Majority of Nigerians are suffering now under President Tinuba’s Administration yet he refused to listen, A big of rice that was selling 8,000 is now 65,000 and above, and fuel that was selling 150 a litre is now 920 to 1000 , yet you are telling US that the present Administration has done well in his economic reforms, . Nigerians are not Totally blind yet , some of use are still seeing the road.
