The Defence Headquarters, DHQ says Seaman Abbas Haruna, alleged to have been in detention for six, was never arrested.
Recall that the case of Seaman Abass made it to the public recently after his wife alleged that he had been in detention for nearly six years.
The wife made the allegations when she was featured on a radio station in Abuja.
Her claim prompted the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa to order an investigation into the matter.
Recently, a video surfaced on social media that showed Seaman Abbas resisting attempts to disarm him by other personnel.
However, during the attempts, the video went blank, but several gunshots were heard.
Speaking with newsmen, the Defence Spokesman, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau revealed that Haruna was never apprehended.
“He was never under arrest. People are just making an issue out of no issue,” Gusau stated.
The defence spokesman, when asked the whereabouts of Seaman Haruna since the wife alleged he was in a military’s holding facility for six years, noted that this would be made known upon conclusion of investigation.
He added, “Investigation is currently ongoing. By the time the investigation report is ready, we will inform Nigerians what happened and where he is.”
Upon further questions, General Gusau added that the wife of Seaman Haruna knew her husband was never arrested
“She knows her husband was never under arrest. At the right time, we will let people know what happened.”
