Why we Rejected Appointment of New CEO – NIPOST Workers

Workers of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) on Monday protested the appointment of Tola Adeyemi as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the agency.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the workers, who shut down the NIPOST headquarters in Abuja, said the appointment was against their interest and that Adeyemi was not qualified for the job.

“Under Adeyemi Adepoju, the previous CEO, NIPOST was able to clear the debt it owed, and that is the reason why we are having smooth process in our service,” said Buba Nehemiah, President of the National Union of Postal and Telecommunication Employees.

“We have seen a situation to crumble this organisation for the past three years, and today we are saying no to it. Today we are requesting that the post master general should be allowed to continue the good work he has started.”

Nehemiah said NIPOST has over 13,000 workers and that any plan to crumble the agency would add to insecurity in the country.

“The only condition that can make us go back to our office and work is for the appointment that was made last week to be reversed,” he maintained.

The workers’ protest comes just days after President Bola Tinubu appointed Adeyemi as the new CEO of NIPOST. The appointment was part of a leadership shuffle implemented for agencies and parastatals under the Ministry of Communications, Innovations and Digital Economy.

  1. Are you dictating for the presidentwho to be appointed. You don’t have any right to protest against any appointment the president make. The should verify the staff profiles, may be and exrensl who was potentially waiting for the appointment could not get now influence the staff to protest in the detriment of their job. The Nipost is not individual organisation but public under the leadership of the president.
Calling on the Nipost union to call the employees to order or else. Unless you re there with unclean hand if not why this action, is it becsuse President Tinubu allows democracy freedom of expession that’s why people just behaving any how.
