A former Presidential aide under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, Doyin Okupe has listed some guidelines for the defeat of the deadly COVID-19 virus.
In a statement on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, Okupe suggested the following tips to Nigerians in order to keep safe and prevent contracting the dreaded infection.
“1. Please believe the pandemic is real and is no respecter of persons, age or status.
“2. Do not step out of your premises if you really don’t have to. Do not entertain visitors including family and friends.
“3. If you must go out PLEASE OBSERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING and wear a mask to cover nose and mouth. Not as decoration.
“4. If you go out daily, then, Morning & night, do a throat gaggle with warm salt water. You can do steam inhalation; morning & night or at least once a day. If you make contact with the virus, it stays in your nasal cavity and throat for 3-4 days before spreading to the lungs. In this period, the virus itself is vulnerable to heat and alkalinity. The infection can be aborted. If you are in a taxi, Uber or any public transport, please ensure the windows are down for air circulation.
“5. Above all, boost your immunity because it may protect against the illness. Secondly it is your ultimate pillar of survival in case you actually become infected. There are so many medical supplements and preparations in the market that boost immunity. Consult your doctor or physician for the best recommendations.
“6. Avoid cold drinks!!! Drink warm water always. You may wish to add lemon it’s very good in strengthening the body for defence against the infection.
“7. A glass of hot water with garlic, ginger, turmeric and lemon also assist to shore up the body’s defence mechanism.
“8. At the appearance of fever, or dry cough or sneezing with or without a sore throat, make contact with your local @NCDCgov for help.
“9. Do not fear #COVID-19. If you do catch it, it is not a death sentence and there is no shame in it. Do not be afraid of the isolation Center. 97% of affected people, no matter the presentation; mild, moderate to severe, will overcome the disease. Most people spend from 7 to 21, or max of 30 days in isolation centres, if there are no other complications.
“10. If you are 60yrs and above, please do take extra care and limit your exposure very seriously, even to aides and house helps to the barest minimum. If you are diabetic and hypertensive, ensure your conditions are fully under control in this period. It will improve your survival in case you get infected.”
