Drug Overdose Forces Man to Destroy Properties at Catholic Church

Police officers of the Cross River State Command have arrested a man who invaded a Catholic church and destroyed property worth millions of naira.

The bizarre incident occurred on Sunday, July 16, night at St Bernard’s Catholic Parish, Enyi, Boje in Boki Local Government Area of the state.

His action was tied to an alleged drug overdose.

According to a member of the church, Miss Rhema, the drug addict is from the neighbouring Obanlikwu local government area and a resident in the street.

Rhema alleged he took an overdose of a drug called “ice” and was driven by the impact of the medication to unleash terror on the church in the middle destroying the alter, chairs, tables, glass windows, tiles, valuable documents and other things.

Rhema further disclosed that the church doors were shut but not locked which gave room for him to access the premises and wreak havoc.

She noted that after the operation, the suspect slept off inside the church until the morning when people who came for morning prayers arrived and they were shocked by what they saw in the church while the perpetrator laid asleep on one side of the destroyed floor.
