Drunk policeman shoots father dead in Maiduguri

A police sergeant under the influence of drugs and alcohol has killed his father after shooting him dead in the Tudu neighborhood of Maduganari village, near the Borno State Police Command offices in Maiduguri.

Sergeant Linus Wadzani, a member of Mopol 6, Maiduguri’s Mobile Police unit, who protects the Borno State House of Assembly, was said to have shot his father multiple times with an AK-47.

The deceased, a retired assistant superintendent of police, had previously worked at the state command with the mounted unit.

According to a statement from the Borno State Police Command spokesman, Kenneth Daso, the incident occurred when Sergeant Linus returned home around 4:30 pm and got into a heated argument with his father.

He said the altercation escalated, leading Linus to shoot his father multiple times, resulting in his immediate death.

He said a police patrol team responded swiftly to a distress call from a family member and secured the scene. During questioning, Sergeant Linus admitted to being under the influence of strong drugs and alcohol.

The Borno State Police Command said it has assembled a forensic team to assess the sergeant’s mental state, and blood samples have been taken.

The statement added that a homicide investigation is now underway to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

The police command extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted to ensure justice is served.
