DSS arrests two Nigerians linked to Moroccan terrorists network in Osun state

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two Nigerians, Ayomide Akintunde and Nurudeen Adesiyan, for their alleged connection to a Moroccan terrorist currently in Spanish custody.

The arrests were made on December 19, 2024, in Modakeke, Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State.

The Federal High Court in Abuja granted the DSS a 60-day detention order on Friday to allow for the conclusion of its investigation.

Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order following an ex-parte application by the DSS, which argued that releasing the suspects could compromise the investigation and pose a threat to public safety.

According to the DSS, the suspects were in communication with a Moroccan terrorist under investigation by the Spanish National Police for jihadist publications and plans to acquire firearms for attacks in Nigeria.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Moroccan terrorist communicated with Ayomide Akintunde and Nurudeen Adesiyan using their registered phone numbers, which they admitted to owning for over ten months,” the DSS stated in court documents.

The agency further disclosed that the suspects have been cooperative and are providing critical information that could lead to the identification and arrest of other members of their network.

The case has been adjourned until March 3, 2025, for further mention.

The DSS, however, reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country and urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities.
