DSS speaks out against ‘antics of dark forces to blackmail’ DG Bichi

The Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday said it is aware of plots by detractors to blackmail its Director General (DG), Yusuf Bichi.

In a statement by its spokesman, Peter Afunanya, sent to POLITICS NIGERIA, the secret police said some persons are determined to undermine the agency.

This newspaper recalls that a caucus is calling for the sack of Bichi in view of his alleged recent activities, which reportedly undermined President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise of free and fair general elections.

According to the critics, the plot to force the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, out of office, and the recent attempt to stop the Naira redesign, among others, have been linked to the DSS and its boss.

But the agency fumed at those allegations.

“The Service is monitoring developments and will allow the plotters to either exhaust themselves or rescind the plan of action. Otherwise, no amount of intimidation, harassment and blackmail will deter it from discharging its duties.

“However, it would not idly watch a group of dissatisfied gang to undermine the Service and its highly dedicated leadership and management.

“The DSS, therefore, wishes to inform the public to be wary of these tendencies and ignore the antics of dark forces out to impugn the character of the DG,” the DSS said.
