Ahead of the September 19 Edo governorship election, some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and party leaders will meet with its governorship candidate, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in Abuja on Tuesday.
POLITICS NIGERIA understands that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the convening of meeting in order to ensure that the party wins the governorship election.
It was also gathered the party leaders and governors, at the meeting, will review the preparations for the election and fine-tune strategies on how to defeat the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State is said to chair the meeting and report back to the President.
Others are Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, who is also the Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum and Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State, are also part of the meeting, which come out with a plan on how to reclaim the state from the PDP.
The meeting, which will also be attended by the party’s National Caretaker Committee members, is coming at a time some of the party’s National Campaign Council for Edo State Election members have relocated to Benin City, the state capital, to help strengthen the campaign structures.
