Edo 2020: Why I visited President Buhari – Obaseki

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has expressed the reason for visiting President Muhammadu Buhari on at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports how the embattled Governor, who is seeking reelection traveled to Aso Villa, hours after meeting with the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.

It should be noted that Mr Obaseki has been facing a tough time with the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, who is overtly against his reelection.

On Monday afternoon, Mr Obaseki presented his nomination form for re-election under the APC for President Buhari.

Obaseki made the presentation during a visit to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, ahead of the APC governorship primary election scheduled for this month.

The governor, who addressed State House Correspondents on the purpose of the visit, said, “Even though Buhari is a father, it would be wrong to assume or take things for granted, so I have to formally inform (him).”

The governor also said over 300,000 Edo indigenes had been screened for COVID-19 out of the 500,000 targeted by the government.

He also vowed to ensure that the killers of the 100-level student of the University of Benin, Uwaila Omozuwa, were tracked and brought to justice, describing the crime as heinous.

However, stating what took him to the Villa, he wrote on Twitter: “I just met with His Excellency @MBuhari to intimate him on my intention to seek re-election on the platform of our great party, @OfficialAPCNg.”
