The Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the governor-elect, despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, won the election with 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.
Ighodalo and the PDP leadership in Edo State have refused to acknowledge Okpebholo’s victory, citing allegations of rigging and manipulation in favour of the APC.
Agbebaku urged Okpebholo to be cautious of sycophants as he prepares to govern the state.
During a plenary session on Wednesday, Agbebaku, a PDP member representing Owan West constituency, stated, “The governor-elect is for Edo people and not for the All Progressives Congress alone, and I pray that sycophants do not mislead him.”
Agbebaku’s local government, Owan West, was won by the APC, with 12,277 votes to the PDP’s 11,284 votes.
