Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has publicly declared his support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo, Asue Ighodalo, distancing himself from former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Makinde made his position clear during the groundbreaking ceremony for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan on Wednesday.
The declaration comes ahead of the Edo governorship election set for this Saturday.
Makinde urged all PDP members to rally behind Ighodalo, emphasizing that he is the candidate who offers the best option for the people of Edo State.
In his statement, Makinde dismissed rumours about his absence from recent campaign activities, saying, “Let me declare that Seyi Makinde is 100% with our candidate in Edo State, Asue Ighodalo.”
In addition to supporting Ighodalo, Makinde also declared his backing for the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, amidst concerns about his leadership.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Damagum, urging party members to collaborate for the party’s success.
Makinde added, “Whatever decision you take, we will support you to reposition our party. Even if we have issues with ourselves, we have an important election on Saturday, so we should all rally around and deliver our candidate.”
