Edo election: “Investigate APC guber candidate’s ‘insecurity’ comment” – Group tells DSS

A group, Young Edo Professionals, has called for an immediate and thorough investigation by the Department of State Security (DSS) into recent controversial comments made by Senator Monday Okpebholo, the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming Edo State governorship election.

During a campaign rally, Senator Okpebholo declared, “We are going to provide you with insecurity.”

The group argued that Okpebholo’s comment indicates his true intentions for the state and potentially reveals plans to import the same instability that has plagued other APC-governed states.

According to the group, Okpebholo’s remarks are not only alarming but also suggest a deliberate strategy to introduce insecurity into Edo State.

Part of the statement read, “The Young Edo Professionals Group is gravely concerned that Senator Okpebholo’s remarks indicate a potential plan to introduce the same instability and lawlessness seen in APC-governed states into Edo.

“We firmly believe that Okpebholo’s comment is a revealing slip that uncovers his true intentions for Edo State.”

The group noted that there is a troubling trend of increasing violence and criminal activities in APC-led states, stressing that such patterns could be replicated in Edo if the party is allowed to govern the state.

The group cited the violence on Airport Road in Benin City, which led to the death of a police inspector, noting that it was linked to APC’s political activities in the state.

“The Young Edo Professionals Group is urging the DSS to act promptly and decisively.

“We are calling on the Department of State Security (DSS) to take Senator Okpebholo’s comments very seriously and to initiate a thorough investigation into his activities and associations,” the group stated.
