The conduct of the just concluded Edo State governorship election has been commended by the British High Commission.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 25, the commission described the Saturday’s election that saw All Progressives Congress candidate, Monday Okpebholo as governor-elect largely peaceful.
The commission also urged the electorates and every other group or individual who might be aggrieved over the outcome of elections to remain calm.
Emphasising the importance of maintaining peace, the commission commended the people of Edo for coming out en masse to exercise their civic rights.
“The UK commends the largely peaceful conduct of the elections and the voters of Edo State for their participation,” the statement said.
The British High Commission also urged members of the different political parties that participated in the election to use available legal channels to seek redress.
This Commission also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and other relevant organisations to ensure they handle complaints from all parties with utmost fairness.
The statement further noted that the British High Commission is committed to supporting credible elections in Nigeria and would continue to monitor the situation in Edo State closely.
