Edo election: Mrs Obaseki says Tinubu won’t influence upcoming guber poll

The First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, has refuted claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to use “federal might” to influence the outcome of the upcoming governorship election in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a recent interview with an online television platform, Mrs. Obaseki stated that President Tinubu is committed to upholding democratic processes.

“President Tinubu is smarter and wiser. He is not at their level at all,” she said, praising both Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari for their democratic stance.

She noted that Buhari used federal power solely to protect voters, without interfering with election results.

Mrs. Obaseki, speaking on Tinubu’s history as a reformer during his time as Lagos State governor, expressed confidence that he would not jeopardize the progress made in Edo State under her husband’s administration.

“President Tinubu, who is committed to good governance and continuity, would not disrupt the progress made in Edo, especially when the state has gained international recognition for its development,” she added.

She further expressed optimism about the future, stating that if other governors followed the paths set by Edo and Lagos, Nigeria would see significant national improvement.
